Overview

Cadence is a mobile capture tool for the micro-moments when an idea strikes — in line, commuting, between meetings. We combined voice notes, quick text, and sketch into a single capture gesture, built and prototyped in a week.

Tldr

Ideas arrive in the gaps of a day. The tools we use don't.

Cadence is a one-gesture capture tool: hold to talk, tap to type, swipe to sketch. We designed and prototyped it in a one-week sprint for a design competition.

Problem

People who care about their work think about it constantly — but capturing a thought means stopping everything.

Ideas scatter across notes apps, screenshots, and half-remembered thoughts because capturing them well requires sitting down. We wanted capture to cost almost nothing.

Outcome

A winning concept — and a capture pattern I still reach for.

We presented to a panel of designers from across the industry and took the top prize. More than the result, the single-gesture capture model is something I’ve carried into later work.
